Zoe

2009 - 2024

THIS IS ZOE

To say she is just a dog would be a disservice.
To put it simply, Zoe is unique and one of a kind.
Her gentle disposition puts everyone at ease.
She is the one that everyone wishes they have, but her heart belongs to one.
She chose her soulmate many years ago.
The bond was born at first sight. The mom, who was feeling down, locked eyes with Zoe.
She is the one, the mom whispered. The dad nodded and a forever home was found.
Zoe was welcomed immediately by the family. The children love her and embrace her.
Zoe’s life and that of her new family has been forever changed for the better.

As the years have gone by, Zoe’s life has expanded. She has travelled on holidays.
Gone on trips to the beach and welcomed a brother and sister to her home.
Zoe and her mom are inseparable. Every night they snuggle on the couch.
Every morning, they start the day together on that same couch. Getting ready for a new day.

In the Spring, Zoe enjoys the new smells in the grass and rare days of sun peeking through the clouds.
Going for a walk with her dad if it is not raining. Refusing to go home early if the dad or mom tries shortening the route. (she knows!)

In the summer, Zoe and mom sit outside in the sunshine.
The warmth of the Sun’s rays, touching their skin with a warm kiss.
This is their time.

In the fall and winter, with the cooler weather, walks are less, but snuggle time is increased.
The mom and Zoe spend the days together. The mom’s hand, gently patting Zoe as she settles on mom’s lap.
As the winter snow falls, the dad makes sure Zoe, and her siblings are protected outside.
Building a shelter against the cold winds and snow that whip through the yard.

As the seasons and years pass, life is good. It is not without scares and concerns, but the love and strength of the family brings them through difficulties.
But time does catch up. Zoe is now a senior dog, wise in her years, but also succumbing to the realities of the limitations now apparent.
The mom and dad do everything they can to make life easier for Zoe. This generously extends the physical time Zoe has with the family.
But Zoe’s struggles are becoming more than her body can cope. She is tired and knows that it is time.
The mom and dad, although very reluctant, know Zoe is right. The signs can no longer be ignored.

On a summer day Zoe peacefully passes……

But this is not the end. If you look carefully, all that has been written, you can see it is in current tense. There is no past tense here.
That is because Zoe has never left.
Zoe is with the family every day.
In the light pink hues of a morning sunrise, this is Zoe.
In the warm sun’s rays hitting the family through the window or out in the yard, this is Zoe.
In the new growth of plants and flowers in the yard, this is Zoe.
In the warmth of the blanket that embraces the mom on couch, this is Zoe.
In the pink dusky hues of evening sunset, this is Zoe.

Zoe has not left the family into which she was welcomed. Her presence cannot be limited to a physical being.
While the family grieves for the loss they feel, Zoe will wait for them to realize that…

She is with them every day. Nothing has kept Zoe and her beloved family apart.
